Hawaiian Style Tuna Poké
Poké is everywhere these days, but this combo is how I first tried it in Hawaii, where it’s originally from. There’s nothing better than beautiful, simply sauced and seasoned, fresh fish. You can (of course) add whatever extra toppings you want, but this recipe is perfect as is.
- 1 lb sashimi grade yellowfin or ahi tuna, cut into 1" chunks
- 2 tbsp coconut aminos can sub for low sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp chili garlic paste
- 1/2 cup chopped green onions, green parts only
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced yellow onion
- 1 tbsp finely chopped or crushed toasted macadamia nuts
- 1 tsp himalayan sea salt
- In a bowl, combine the tuna, coconut aminos (or soy sauce), sesame oil, green onion, yellow onion, chili garlic paste, and sea salt and toss well to combine using your hands or a spoon.
- Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes in the fridge — the longer you let this marinate the more the onions will break down and the more the flavors will meld together.
- Serve on its own or over rice and top with crushed macadamia nuts.
